Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that uses focused ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the face, neck, chin, brow, and improve lines and wrinkles on the chest.
It kick-starts your skin’s deadbeat collagen and put it on rewind, reversing years’ worth of aging over the course of a few weeks.
Typically, the skin’s foundational layer is addressed in cosmetic surgery but with Ultherapy this can be done without cutting the surface of the skin. There’s no scarring and no downtime. You still look like yourself, only younger. The result lasts up to 2 years.
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a non-invasive aesthetic treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen and elastin production, which results in firmer skin, less sagging and fewer wrinkles. The energy from the applicator is aimed at different depths, affecting three layers: muscle, skin and superficial wrinkles. As the production of collagen takes time, the treatment results will only become more apparent after 2 to 3 months, sometimes it can take up to 6 months.
The science behind Ultherapy is quite interesting and unique. Unlike most lasers or radio frequency that tend to push energy into the skin or the deep tissues from the outside in, Ultherapy can focus the ultrasound energy to bypass beneath the surface of the skin and deliver the right amount of energy at the right depths and the right temperature. It stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a significant lifting effect.
Ultherapy is more superior in deep penetration compared to lasers which rely on light energy. To surmise, laser treatments are usually used to address superficial skin concerns. They cannot reach deeper layers to create a lifting and tightening effect like Ultherapy.
Ultherapy is different from lasers or cosmetic procedures as it is the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, this means that doctors are actually able to see all the layers and specifically target the selected area for treatment, where it will be most beneficial. Although Ultherapy can emulate similar response to a face lift surgery, it is by no means a replacement. It is however a great alternative for those who are not ready to undergo a face lift surgery.
Ultherapy is commonly used on the face, neck and chest. Other targeted areas include: eyebrows, under the chin and décolletage (chest area). A customised plan can be made during your consultation with your Ultherapy provider.
Why do people seek Ultherapy?
Those who want to stay ahead by stimulating their collagen before it starts to deteriorate. A good candidate for Ultherapy is someone with skin laxity, such as loose skin under the neck or chin, wrinkles around the chest. Typically, you can start the procedure if you are in your late 30’s or older.
Other benefits include:
- FDA-approved and tested
- No surgery, great for those who are worried about going under the knife or scars.
- No downtime, get right down to business after the procedure is completed.
- Non-invasive, Ultherapy helps you to achieve a fresher appearance without all the complications.
- Focused ultrasound, which allows Doctors to see the layers of tissues that they are treating and target the energy from the laser to where its most beneficial.
Some patients see an initial effect right after their treatment, but the real results appear in 2 to 3 months, as new collagen works to lift and tighten skin on the neck, chin and brow as well as smoothing any wrinkles on the chest.
Patients must be aware that Ultherapy will not duplicate the results of a facelift, it’s more suitable for mild to moderate cases of lifting. Ultherapy is clinically proven non-invasive procedure for those who wish to avoid surgery – and can even be used to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.
What’s the procedure like?
On the day of your treatment, you will have your skin cleansed by our aesthetic nurse. The doctor will then identify specific areas to be treated and apply the ultrasound gel. Next, the doctor will use Ultherapy’s ultrasound imaging to scan deep within the skin to determine the optimal placement of treatment energy, and then deliver the focused ultrasound energy beneath the surface of the skin.
During the treatment, you may will feel tiny tingling and heat sensations, indicating that the collagen building process has been initiated. Comfort levels differs from person to person, but the sensation usually only lasts while the energy is being delivered.
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated. A face and neck procedure typically take up to 60 to 90 minutes, while chest treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. After the treatment is completed you can return to your normal activity.
The majority of patients needs only one treatment to see results. Though some may benefit from additional treatments depending on much skin laxity that they have and their own biological response to be ultrasound and collagen building process.
You can also try Exilis as an alternative to maintain the benefits from the Ultherapy treatment. Exilis is used to treat fat reduction and skin tightening, it can be done more regularly as its more affordable option than Ultherapy. Though the results will not be as prominent as Ultherapy, it is a great alternative for those who are budget conscious.
Why not throw in a Silk Peel or Chemical Peel Facial for an additional glow. Not only will your face be less saggy thanks to Ultherapy, but it will look absolutely radiant with our facials.
Other alternatives to produce similar results to Ultherapy would be a thread lift, please note that should you decide to do this treatment, it is minimally invasive as it does involve needles.
