What is Thermage?

It uses radio frequency to stimulate the collagen-rich layers of the dermis into producing new collagen, which gradually forms over the next 3 – 6 months, and over time patient can expect to see a fuller, more toned and lifted appearance.
Why do people seek Thermage?
Thermage can address the visible signs of aging, with this non-invasive radiofrequency it can smooth, tighten and contour skin for an overall younger-looking skin. Anyone whose skin needs some tightening and are beginning to see the effects of collagen depletion are ideal candidates. Some patients start as early as their 30’s.

If you are unsure which category you fall under, feel free to book an appointment to consult with our doctors.
What’s the procedure like?
As with most procedures, it is important that you schedule a consultation with a specialist in Thermage. During the session, the Doctor will address your concerns, assess your skin and determine if you are a candidate for the treatment. Once you have booked in your Thermage session, there is no special preparations or skincare regime that you have to follow in advance of the treatment.
As we age, the collagen that keeps our skin firm breaks down and results in aging skin that surfaces as fine lines and wrinkles. Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency technology to heat the deeper, collagen-rich layers of the skin. The heat that is applied causes collagen to contract and encourages new collagen to start growing. This helps to create smoother skin after just one treatment and results will continue to improve over time.
You will feel some heating sensation when the device tip touches your skin, followed by a cooling sensation to help protect your skin and minimize any discomfort.
What’s the procedure like?
After the treatment has been completed, you can go about your usual activities. For most patients’ results can be seen after one session of Thermage, over the next 3 to 6 months following the procedure the results become more obvious. The results can last for 1 – 2 years depending on your skin condition and aging process. It is recommended by doctors to continue Thermage as an annual skin rejuvenation maintenance program.
Unlike many cosmetic procedures which require multiple follow-up sessions, Thermage delivers results after a single treatment. Best of all, the results continue to improve over time. However, if you would like to maintain healthy glow and encourage continued collagen growth, you can opt to do Exilis, which is a milder form of RF therapy. It’s also important to take care to avoid things that will damage your skin, such as the sun, a healthy dose of sunscreen will protect you from any nasty UVs.
Possible Side Effects / Risks
As Thermage is a non-invasive procedure, there are less risks involved compared to surgery. That being said, common side effects include temporary redness and minor swelling after treatment which normally disappears after 24 hours.
