Weight Management (Saxenda)

Saxenda

Fill 1102Created with Sketch.

Many people who have tried to lose weight end up regaining it later on. If this is something you have experienced in the past you may wonder why it is so hard to maintain weight loss.

Did you know losing weight causes changes that make you feel hungry and less satisfied after eating? Also, your body goes into an energy-saving mode and burns fewer calories. This can slowly lead to the lost weight being regained.

Saxenda® can help reduce weight by enhancing the way your body regulates appetite. Your body produces a number of appetite regulators. One of these is called GLP-1. Saxenda® works like GLP-1 by binding to and activating GLP-1 receptors, to decrease feelings of hunger while increasing feelings of fullness, so you are eating less.

Thread Lift

1

Types of Thread Lift

There are a few types of thread lifts, the main difference is longevity, stiffness and tensile strength:

  • PDO (Polydioxanone) dissolves after 6 – 9 months
  • PLLA (Poly L Lactic Acid) dissolves after 12 – 18 months
  • PCL (Polycaprolactone) dissolves after 24 – 36 months

Considerations

Although thread lifts are advantageous, patients must maintain a realistic expectation for this procedure. While thread lifts can certainly produce visible changes, they will only be able to lift the face by a few millimeters, as such they create a more subtle and natural look than facelift surgery. Thread lifts are more suitable for mild to moderate cases of skin laxity. Once thread lifts are no longer feasible, patients may have to consider facelift surgery.

The patient needs to understand that no lifting technique is permanent, that being said a facelift surgery will produce longer-lasting results than a thread lift. Facelift surgery can last up to a decade whereas a thread lift generally lasts between one to three years.

3

Maintenance

To get the most out of the treatment, patients can combine thread lift with Exilis, Thermage or Ultherapy. These lasers use heat to stimulate collagen production. By combining these procedures with thread lift you can maximize the overall effect of skin firming and create even more lifting to the neck as well as the face.

While thread lifts can tighten skin, they aren’t designed to address the blemishes of the skin’s surface. As such signs of aging such as age spots, areas of uneven pigmentation and fine lines will require a different technique known as skin resurfacing. During skin resurfacing the top layer of the dermis is removed, stripping away the blemishes. A new more youthful-looking layer of the skin then grows in its place. You can do this through other lasers or fillers. It would be best to consult with the doctor on what works best for your condition.

Other Fat Loss Treatment

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved non-invasive procedure that reduces fat through cryolipolysis (using freezing temperatures to break down fats). The cold does not damage other cells in the same way it does fat cell, therefore by doing CoolSculpting it will not damage the skin or underlying tissue nearby the treated area. Once the fat cells have been destroyed by freezing, they are gradually broken down and removed from the body by the liver.

      What are Skin Boosters?

      Fill 1102Created with Sketch.

Skin boosters are an injectable treatment that is designed to deliver deep skin hydration. Most of the time, they promote a natural glow and radiance.

This relatively new treatment concept has become a lot more popular over the past few years. It particularly appeals to patients who want to look fresh and natural with their anti-ageing treatments.

Skin booster results don’t have the dramatic impact that can be associated with the better known non-surgical treatments. They don’t “freeze” the features or stop muscle movement (like BOTOX® can), although they can help to smooth out lines and wrinkles. They won’t deliver exaggerated or over-inflated results like dermal fillers can, although they can add more subtle volume by gently plumping the skin.

Plinest® is a skin regeneration and rejuvenation treatment that uses pure and high-quality polynucleotide (PN) gel to repair your skin and keep it healthy and glowing.

Plinest pioneered the use of polynucleotide (PN) gel, which was then used in Rejuran and other PN or PDRN gel treatments that have recently saturated the market.

Because of its biochemical, hydrating, and viscoelastic properties, Plinest enhances skin elasticity. Plinest can also improve fibrous tissue regions like scars and stretch marks, making it the innovative game-changer in scar and stretch mark treatment.

Plinest, known in the aesthetic market as the Ferrari of regeneration gels, is made from DNA fragments collected from Italian Trout Fish using Mastelli’s HPT technology, devised and developed in Italy.

A natural physiological procedure stimulates dermal bio-revitalization and collagen repair, enhancing skin quality from within. Plinest treatment can reportedly give you better skin brightness, improved skin texture, and enhanced skin elasticity, giving you a healthier and more radiant appearance.

It is ideal for treating dry skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines on your face, and reversing the signs of skin aging.

Alopecia is a condition of partial or complete hair loss in an individual. Alopecia may begin with hair loss on the scalp, either in patches or on the entire head. The onset of this disease is often random, sudden, and recurrent. It can affect any hair-bearing area of the body. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease with a prevalence ranging between 41% and 73% in Asia. Factors such as unhealthy eating habits, increasing consumption of alcohol and smoking lead to accelerated hair loss. However, stress remains one of the leading causes of hair loss among a vast pool of Asian populations.

Effective treatment for hair loss begins with finding the cause. To get an accurate diagnosis, it helps to see a good aesthetician. These doctors have in-depth knowledge about the many causes of hair loss and experience treating the diverse causes.

              Pico Laser Malaysia

              By 2022 June, Aesthetic Medicine

              WHAT IS PICO LASER

Pico lasers got its name from the SI unit measurement, pico. The pico unit is rather unheard of as it is really so minute, unlike the mili, micro and nano units which are much more common. To give you an idea of how really tiny the unit measurement is, a picosecond is one trillionth the speed of a second! This definitely gives you an idea of how fast the laser is. Pico lasers deliver laser shots (“pulses”) that are short, fast and high-powered. When the pulses are short and fast, more laser shots can be delivered to the treatment area and hence, the skin problem can be resolved quicker.

On the other hand, traditional lasers uses nanosecond pulse widths. You may have come across the term “Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser” or simply nanosecond lasers – these are the traditional lasers used in most aesthetic treatment centres today before the emergence of the pico laser. With a nanosecond being one billionth of a second, the laser shots in traditional lasers are also delivered in very high speeds but they are still 1,000 times slower than a pico laser.
However, it is not just the pulse length or speeds that matter when selecting a laser treatment. There are more factors that make pico lasers more effective – read more below.

The Advantage of Pico Laser over Traditional Laser

Pico lasers work more effectively than traditional lasers because

              • pico laser pulses are shorter, faster and more powerful, resulting in fewer treatments as the skin becomes free of the problem quicker when it receives more laser shots
              • pico lasers also have an additional third wavelength pulse, 755nm, that targets a specific problem compared to traditional lasers that have just two wavelengths
              • pico lasers uses radiopulse technology to breaks up pigmentation, instead of traditional lasers that works by forcing the pigmentation to absorb light and heat energy to appear lighter yet still visible

Because the skin’s pigment absorbs heat from traditional lasers, customers have to wait longer between sessions to allow the skin to heal and lose redness before undergoing another session. There is also a risk of the heat damaging the surrounding tissues. On the contrary, there is no downtime for customers who undergo pico laser treatment – a session typically takes 15 minutes and customers can even apply makeup on the treated skin right after that without experiencing any effect or discomfort.

              How Does Pico Laser Work?

Beverly Wilshire’s pico lasers, PicoWay, tackle various skin problems in two ways:

              • PicoWay Zoom

Picoway’s pico laser pulses are delivered to the skin using Zoom hand-held devices. When these pico laser pulses hit the dark spots in the skin caused by accumulation of melanin, the dark pigments erupt into very small particles that will no longer be visible on the skin’s surface.

PicoWay Zoom laser pulses are ideal for removing pigmentation caused by long-term exposure to the sun, tattoos, birth spots or even medical conditions such as melasma that result in brown or gray patches on the skin.

              • PicoWay Resolve

The PicoWay Resolve method emits the same PicoWay Zoom laser pulses broken into 100 identical pulses called beamlets. Because the laser pulses are ‘finer’ and evenly spaced out now, the beamlets penetrate and vaporize tiny areas beneath the skin using a non-heating (“photoacoustic”) effect. New open spaces are now created upon the vaporization, which the skin will self-heal and repair over time by generating collagen and elastin. The result – rejuvenated and supple skin that’s free of fine lines, open pores and wrinkles.

Traditional lasers can also remove pigmentation, tattoos and wrinkles BUT in a less effective and comfortable way.

              What does Pico Laser Treat?

Pico laser is the best treatment if you have these skin imperfections that have been bothering you:

              • Pigmentation
              • Unwanted tattoos
              • Large pores
              • Scars
              • Acne
              • Wrinkles and fine lines

PicoWay Zoom will address pigmentation and tattoo removal, while PicoWay Resolve will regenerate the skin to treat large pores, scars, acne and wrinkles. Of all skin conditions mentioned, those who are seeking tattoo removal will benefit the most from pico lasers as the laser pulses are especially ideal for the removal of blue and green coloured pigments, which have always been a challenge to completely remove using traditional laser treatments.

What to Expect during a Pico Laser Treatment

A pico laser treatment is a safe and non-invasive treatment, so there is nothing that you really need to do to prepare. Your first step would be to search for a licensed and experienced aesthetic treatment clinic like us at Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre that offers pico laser treatments. The doctor will assess your skin issue and determine the method as well as the optimum wavelength to treat the problem. The treatment is done by the doctor himself in the same visit. A session is so quick at an average of 15 minutes each, with no visible side effects, that you could even schedule an appointment during your lunch break.

Make an appointment with our doctors at Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre today to find out how pico lasers can help you regain your confidence.

              Acne Scars

Skin freckles, also known as brown spots or hyper pigmentation, are caused by sun exposure, ageing, stress, hormonal imbalance and the use of certain contraceptives. Freckles happen when the skin produces excessive amounts of melanin, a natural darkening substance, to protect the skin from solar damage.

              Stretch Marks

Ranging from fine lines to thick waves, stretch marks are often caused by extreme weight fluctuation, rapid muscle building and pregnancy.

When the skin is stretched too quickly, some of its collagen fibers can break, causing underlying blood vessels to show through, leaving behind red or purplish marks resembling spider webs or tree branches.

Over time, they fade to pale white or silvery colour, but they do not usually go away fully.

Before full-blown wrinkles come fine lines, it is a normal process and differences exist based on genetics, gender, “wear and tear”, and upkeep.

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to iron them out before they develop into deeper lines and wrinkles. With science-backed treatments, the ability to delay facial aging is the here-and-now.

Internationally recognised for revolutionising the world of aesthetics, Botulinum Toxin is used to relax the muscles around targeted areas of the face and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck and around the eyes.

                  Non Surgical V-shape Face

The term “V-shaped face” was coveted by Korean celebrities and today, almost every Asian woman.

However, the thought of shaving your jaw can be intimidating, frightening, or both: compression bandage around your face, liquid diet, swelling, drooling, and pain.

Hence non-surgical face contouring, or commonly called non-surgical V-shaped face: a popular treatment option to achieve positive, life-changing results without the need of breaking the bank or causing setbacks in your daily work.

Injection of botulinum toxin (often marketed under the brand name Botox) can relax the jaw muscles and lift your face, while diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.

What are Laser Treatments & Phototherapy?

Laser is an acronym for “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation” they work by emitting a wavelength of high energy light, which when focused on certain skin conditions (e.g sun spots) will create heat and treat the problem via destruction (e.g. removing the sun spots). There are many different wavelengths (or colours) of lasers because each wavelength treats different things. For the purpose of this exercise we shall split the lasers into 4 categories: ablative laser, non-ablative lasers, fractional lasers and non-lasers.

The laser cost starts from RM 500.

                          1

                          Ablative Lasers

Focus on the outer layer of the skin by creating micro wounds on the surface.

                          Non-Ablative Lasers

Pass safely through the outer layer of the skin by penetrating the tissue lying beneath. They can treat skin issues without damaging the surface of your skin, non-ablative lasers are considered an improvement as they require less recovery time.

                          2

                          3

                          Fractional Lasers

Fractional laser beams are split into hundreds of tiny beams (a bunch of dots) instead of a solid beam. When fractional laser penetrates the skin, it penetrates in a scattered way, treating some skin while leaving skin in between alone. The spread-out dosage means that you receive the same benefits minus the downtime. Fractional lasers can be either ablative or non-ablative.

                          Non-Lasers

Pretty much everything else, devices such as Radiofrequency (RF), Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Infrared, and Ultrasound fall into this category.

                          BWMC's Laser Treatments & Phototherapy

Pico laser got its name from the SI unit measurement, pico.

A carbon dioxide laser is very strong and can cut into or vaporize skin tissue. A continuous wave of carbon dioxide laser is not as favourable anymore to treat facial skin conditions because of the long downtime. Instead of CO2 Laser used on skin today are fractional carbon dioxide lasers. CO2 lasers are mostly used for removing moles nowadays.

Using light energy, the Revlite Pigment Laser shatters the excess melanin pigments and lightens the affected areas to create a complexion that is clear, clean and bright.

The Revlite laser treatment by our experienced specialists here in Kuala Lumpur emits laser light in very short flashes called pulses to treat pigmentations on the face. Depending on the darkness or age of the blemishes it may require more than one treatment to remove stubborn pigmentation or freckles. At Beverly Wilshire our expert aestheticians will help you achieve beautiful facial skin, returning it to its natural smooth colouring and texture.

The two non-ablative lasers are Fraxel re:fine (used for skin rejuvenation and minimizing fine facial lines, and Fraxel re:store (used for skin resurfacing, treating photodamaged and reducing the appearance of acne scars). The ablative laser is Fraxel re:pair, which uses CO2 laser to treat skin pigmentation and deeper facial wrinkles.

VBeam® is a Pulse Dye laser that delivers an intense but gentle burst of light into selectively targeted areas of the skin. The light is absorbed by specific blood vessles or melanin pigmented areas in the dermis depending on the condition being treated. Factors such as the age, colour and type of lesions, as well as the location on the body, all determine whether lesions can be removed.

                              Thread Lift

                              What is Thread Lift?

                              Fill 1102Created with Sketch.

A thread lift is considered a minimally-invasive treatment, it does not involve cutting or stitching, however, it does involve injecting the thread underneath your skin to “lift” it up, creating the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore tightening the face.

In addition to lifting sagging skin, threads help to combat aging by stimulating large surges of collagen to the treated areas. Collagen acts as growth factor that greatly influences the condition of our skin. In addition to being used for wound healing, collagen helps to keep our skin strong, voluminous and supple. As we get older, our bodies gradually produce less collagen, the loss of volume and strength will cause skin laxity and wrinkle. Besides, gravity will pull the skin downwards, resulting in a haggard look. Introducing fresh collagen to the skin while the signs of laxity are still mild can help to reduce looseness and prevent it from getting worse.

Patients who have undergone thread lift will notice a gradual improvement in their skin tone and firmness. While the threads are in place, the body’s collagen production will be constantly active because the body will try to “heal” the sutured areas. The body is biologically conditioned to react this way when it senses any foreign object present within the dermis (skin). Fortunately for the patient, the threads placed under the skin are so thin that they will not be able to feel the sutures.

The cost of thread lift STARTS FROM 3800.

                              Frequently Asked Questions

Thread lifts are ideal for those in their late 30s to 50s, those who are older will benefit more from facelift surgery. Additionally, those who have medical conditions and are unable to have surgery will find thread lifts are a great alternative.

Patients can drive themselves home immediately after the procedure (unlike in facelift surgery which requires some assistance, as they may be under general anaesthesia). Great for those who have children at home or those who have busy and demanding careers as it is not a time-consuming procedure and doesn’t have a long recovery time.

Most patients can return to their normal routine after the procedure, while some may experience soreness, redness or swelling, it generally takes a day for it to calm down.

There’s no need to take strong pain medication.

For those who are looking for an affordable option, thread lifts are ideal as they are easier to perform, they are much more affordable than say a facelift surgery. The process of thread lift can also be reversed should there be complications.

Firstly, a numbing cream will be applied to the area that is meant to be treated. It takes up to 20 – 30 minutes for the numbing cream to take effect. The doctor will then mark out the positions of the threads to achieve the best possible results.

The doctor will begin by inserting a thick hollow needle into the facial skin, targeting under the fat layer. One end of the thread is carefully tied to firmer underlying internal structures while the other end goes underneath the skin.

As the surgeon withdraws the needle, the filaments on the sutures are deposited into the sagging parts of the face. The doctor then tugs on the threads to elevate droopy skin and sets it to a more youthful-looking position. The procedure is relatively simple and can be done in just an hour or less.

After the treatment, you should minimize the movement of your face for at least a day. You will need to make sure not to rub your face vigorously while cleansing it or applying moisturizer for at least a week after having threads placed. You should also prop your head up slightly so that you don’t roll over directly onto your face while sleeping. You will also need to avoid smoking and drinking for at least 24 hours.

Thread lifts are considered a low-risk procedure thanks to how non-invasive they are. There is virtually no risk of scarring, severe bruising, bleeding or other complications after having a thread lift.

In very rare cases, patients may experience irritation, infection or their sutures becoming visible under their skin. If this occurs, however, the sutures can be removed and the patients face will return to its prior state.
