Aging beautifully – what may sound like an oxymoron to some is reality to others. In this article, we roll back the years to reveal supermodels of the past that still look good or in some cases, even better with age. These people are like wine – they only get better with age. 1. Tyra Banks shutterstock_334654763 Number 1 on our A-list is supermodel Tyra Banks, who was hot then and arguably even hotter now. Known for her role as host, judge and executive producer of the popular America’s Next Top Model reality show, Tyra Banks has maintained her figure even after all these years. Starting her career as a model from a young age of 15, Banks has went on to achieve enormous success, appearing in ads for Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Pepsi – just to name a few. Perhaps her greatest success that has landed her in the history books is the fact that she is the first African-American supermodel to ever appear in the cover of GQ and the Victoria Secret catalogue cover. To top it all off, she has her own talk show – the two-time Daytime Emmy Award The Tyra Banks Talk Show. And yes, all that while still looking this fabulous at the age of 42. That we say, is no mean feat. 2. Christie Brinkley shutterstock_171473495 Appearing in three consecutive editions of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 1981, Christie Brinkley immediately gained worldwide fame. She went on to stamp her place in the history books when she signed to be the face of CoverGirl, signifying the longest running cosmetic contract for any model in history. Brinkley has appeared in more than 500 magazine covers and has represented huge brands such as Coke, MasterCard, Chanel No. 19 among others. Brinkley is truly an angel – having won several awards that recognize her charity work including the Heart Award, Smart Cookie Award and the Humanitarian Award. All these awards in one way or another recognize her tremendous work in helping to improve the quality of lives of children and people around the world. Currently, she is using her international reach and influence to help the push of animal rights through PETA and notably, involving herself in anti-nuclear activities. A pretty face with a kind heart – a killer combo indeed. And did we mention she looks this stunning at the age of 60 years old? 3. Elle Macpherson shutterstock_104574620 When a person’s nickname is “The Body”, you know you are dealing with someone really hot. Turns out, for Elle Macpherson, her body is not her only asset – she’s got the brain to go with the beauty as well. Elle MacPherson’s modelling career is the stuff of legends, spanning 35 years. She is famously known for being the only woman who has appeared for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for a record of 5 times. After her modelling career, she went on to form business ventures which proved extremely successful. Using her nickname “The Body” she established a skin care line The Body which had a large following. Even more successful is her lingerie line dubbed Elle Macpherson Intimates. For her hugely successful lingerie business she was named Glamour Magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005. We mean, when somebody with the nickname The Body makes lingerie, you know you are going to get the good stuff right? While her modelling days are long over, check out her recent picture – she would not look out of place on the runway now would she? And wait till you find out she’s 52 this year. 4. Turlington has been the ambassador for many global brands, including Calvin Klein, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Prada, just to name a few. Appearing no less than 500 times on established magazine covers such as L’officiel, Vogue and Cosmopolitan, Turlington was described to be a muse to many photographers. She now utilizes her influence as a supermodel to fuel her anti-smoking campaigns and to do humanitarian works to lessen maternal deaths. Her other business ventures include a personalized skincare line and a clothing line under Puma. Turlington is a prime example of a model turned entrepreneur.
