12 steps to wellness

Nowadays, most people’s lives are littered with stress from work, parents, society and friends. Stress has an impact on your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, so it’s not something to take lightly. We want to help you achieve that balance, so sit back and follow the 12 steps below:

Step 1: Inhale and exhale

Taking a few deep breaths when you feel stressed or overwhelmed is a way to calm yourself down naturally. Close your eyes and breathe in for a count of ten, then out for a count of 10. Feeling better now? You bet!

Step 2: Eat balanced meals

Take in a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fibre, a little bit of dairy and meat. Minerals and nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, iron, calcium, and vitamins C, K, and E are all essential to a healthy body and mind.

Step 3: Drink plenty of water

Water helps to hydrate your body and detoxify it. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.

Step 4: Get sufficient sleep

Lacking sleep will limit your body’s production of hormones and enzymes. That results in premature aging and low energy. So get less wrinkles and feel more energetic in one fell swoop by taking a few extra zzz’s!

Step 5: Exercise

Exercise enables you to strengthen your body and look fit. Even if you have a desk job, getting up from time to time to walk around the office will boost your blood flow and creativity.

Step 6: Live every moment

Be totally invested in your life right now – don’t look to the past or worry too much about the future. More easily said than done, we know, but at least take some time to appreciate just how far you’ve come.

Step 7: Feel young inside

The ability to feel young and creative fuels your happiness. So roll around in the grass if you want to – we dare you!

Step 8: Banish negative thoughts from your life

Be positive! Negative thoughts only drag you down into morbidity.

Step 9: Get out of your comfort zone

Try something new: the experience will be an eye-opener to you. Do that parachute jump you’ve always dreamed out but been too scared to do, or go learn that car mechanics class you haven’t taken yet because you’re afraid you’ll be no good.

Step 10: Have a social life

Ever heard of loneliness killing a man? Being around friends and family can always cheer you up.

Step 11: Treat yourself

Spend your hard earned cash on something that you love once in a while. It’s an instant mood booster!

Step 12: Smile and laugh

Try it! Let us know what else you would add to the list!
